CREMATION

"From the community, and for the community."

Learn About Cremation

Cremation is a process that uses heat and evaporation to reduce the body to bone fragments. We often refer to these fragments as ashes or cremated remains. It is an alternative option to a burial. While it costs less money, it can come with a variety of additional decisions that need to be made.

Here at Serenity Funeral Homes LLC, we offer several cremation packages which include but are not limited to:
  • Placement in a specialized urn that the family chooses and can take home
  • Cremation necklaces, bracelets and other items for a loved one to be close after death
  • Packages for infants, veterans and armed service members
When you choose a cremation, the body needs to be placed in a closed, combustible container. This container serves the purpose of holding the physical body for the cremation process. If you choose to have a viewing or funeral service with the body present prior to the cremation, you may decide to rent a traditional casket for the event.

Finding the Right Cremation Urn

After cremation, the remains are placed into a container. This is known as an urn. You may wish to purchase a more permanent, personalized, or elegant cremation urn:
  • If you plan to have a memorial service where the cremated remains are present
  • If you plan to inter the remains in a columbarium niche where the urn will be visible
  • If you wish to keep the cremated remains in a place of honor at home
Urns are made from many types of materials, including hardwood, metal, or stone. We offer a selection of unique, temporary urns and biodegradable urns for those who choose to scatter the ashes. There are also miniature keepsake urns which will hold a token portion of the cremated remains, a lock of hair, or earth from the grave site.

Cremation jewelry is available with options that include the ability to hold a small amount of the cremated remains or offer memorialization such as a fingerprint of your loved one.
